Becoming a digital marketing apprentice in Somerset: an inside view
What it's really like training as a digital marketing apprentice in Somerset — the day-to-day, the syllabus, salary, and what employers in Taunton actually look for.

I'm a Level 3 Multi-Channel Marketing Apprentice at Queen's College, Taunton, training through Bridgwater & Taunton College. If you're considering the same route in Somerset — Taunton, Bridgwater, Yeovil or Wells — here's a clearer picture than the official brochures give.
What the apprenticeship actually covers
The Multi-Channel Marketer (Level 3) standard runs around 18 months. You'll be tested on customer journey mapping, content marketing, brand strategy, marketing analytics, paid search, paid social, SEO and campaign planning. End-Point Assessment includes a portfolio, a project, and a professional discussion.
In Somerset, Bridgwater & Taunton College is the dominant provider and is genuinely well-run. Tutor sessions are roughly weekly and the rest of the time you're embedded with an employer.
What a typical week looks like
Four days on the job, one day off-the-job learning. At Queen's College Taunton I run real campaigns — admissions content, Google Business Profile for the school, email sends in Mailchimp, GA4 reporting, photography, graphic design in Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud, and bits of Meta and Google Ads. The off-the-job day is split between college, self-study and project work.
Salary, length and the real ROI
Apprentice salaries in Somerset start around £14k–£18k and lift to £22k–£28k post-completion. Three years in, with no student debt and a portfolio of real campaigns, you're typically ahead of a same-age graduate by £20k–£40k in lifetime earnings — see the math in our piece on why apprenticeships beat marketing degrees.
Where to find roles in Somerset
Search Find an Apprenticeship (GOV.UK) weekly, follow Somerset employers on LinkedIn, and check Somerset Council careers pages. Most South West marketing apprenticeships never appear on Indeed — they're filled through college contacts and direct LinkedIn outreach.
If you want one-to-one help, I run free apprenticeship mentoring for prospective Somerset apprentices.
